While the only HP Pavilion affected is the HP Pavilion zt3000, HP computers feels that this issue will affect any computer maker using the Intel Mobile processors and certain memory modules in their laptops, not just the HP Pavilion zt3000.
Intel's SpeedStep technology has shown incompatabilities with memory modules from Infineon Technologies, Winbond Electronics, Samsung Electronics, and Micron Technology. HP is offering a downloadable utility from their web site that will allow you to check for the affected memory modules on your laptop.
It has been reported by HP computers that the internal memory clocks will not synchronize when memory is read at high speeds. This will cause a crash that can reult in memory loss.
HP computers will send a replacement memory module and a free screwdriver with instructions on how to replace the RAM in their HP Pavilion zt3000. Owners can also receive a free 32MB USB Thumb Drive from Trek 2000 International.
