The Pentium 4 is the priciest, and so is its motherboard, a Socket 478. You will only be able to use a Socket 478 with a Pentium 4. You can check prices below.
Why is it called a 478 Socket? That's the number of pins on the processor that fit into the socket on the motherboard.

You won't be able to replace your CPU with a Pentium 4 if your motherboard is a Socket A type. But the AMD Athlon that is compatible with the Socket A will be just as fast and will cost less. In fact, AMD names it's microprocessors based on their performance against the Pentium 4. An AMD Athlon XP 2200 will be comparable to a Pentium 4 2.2GHz.

I buy a lot of Pentium 4 computers for my clients. I keep an eye out for cheap computer deals so I can pass the savings on to my customers.
I always check the computer hardware prices here because they always offer the best values. Unless I need a faster processor, I usually buy a case that already has a CPU and motherboard installed. My orders have always arrived on time. If I needed to return something, they've refunded my order, no questions asked. See below if you need a supplier of cheap computer hardware.

If your goal is to build a cheap computer, a 370 Socket based Intel Celeron will probably do the job. If your kids are going to want to game on your refurbished computer, spend a little extra on your video card instead of a Pentium 4 CPU.
